Marlene Call – Vegetables

Grandma cuts
vegetables.
That’s how I remember her best: cutting the
vegetables.
Her experienced hands
expertly holds the knife.
The knife tears through the
Radishes,
Zucchini,
Green pepper. She puts the
vegtables on a corn tortilla
(she can’t have wheat.)
She puts black beans on her
corn tortilla
but leaves them out of Grandpa’s.
(he can’t have beans.)
She cuts the
vegetables for me as well, and
I help arrange Grandma’s
vegetables over thinly cut polish sausage and shredded cheddar cheese.
We eat them with milk.
