John Smith and Hannah Sutton

John Smith was born in 1795 in Huntingtonshire, England. A devout Methodist, he farmed and raised animals to secure a livelihood. John married Hannah Sutton in 1819 and they were blessed with 9 children. They were the first of our ancestors to join the Church having been baptized in 1854. Because of the Church they left England in February of 1855 and arrived in the United States after 9 weeks at sea. Lack of means forced them to remain in Pennsylvania for several years until they were able to take their journey in 1860. However, because of poor health they were gain delayed and didn’t arrive in Utah until 1861. John Smith died in 1862, and was followed in death by Hannah in 1868. They were the parents of Charlotte Smith, who married John Wright in England. She along with several other children did not travel to Utah with their parents.

  1. How about adding they are also the parents of Sarah Smith wife of Thomas Cobbley. That is your grandpa’s great grandmother or wife of A. B. (Ben) Walker.
